Devany: China

sounds like a plan to me. Who knew we'd end up as such an international family?!

Ugh.
Some days I am more okay with my singleness than others. Mingling at institute, and trying to meet guys in the ward is one of those less okay with being single times. Just had to put that out there.
Also, last week I forgot to add a highlight of my Saturday...the 5 points that I made in my basketball game. I made a 3 pointer and a short 2 pointer. However, making points for the first time ever isn't all that it could have been considering the large margin we lost by. Playing the undefeated team with only 1 player on the bench just isn't the best recipe for victory.

there's a fancy word that means lots of different things put together, but I can't think of it right now.
So I went Contra dancing on friday night. Considering the fact that I felt like I had step back into Pride and Prejudice times, and was dancing with a lot of 50 year old men, I really enjoyed myself.

Last Saturday I went to Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, and the only picture I got was of my friend James. When it was my turn for a picture, hoards of school kids came, so I was left pictureless. Oh well.

I also spent a few hours at the Native American Smithsonian Museum. Only There would you find a statue of George Washington and some cool Natives.

Last night I threw a Chinese New Year Party. I made these cool lanterns, ordered some delivery Chinese food, and had a good time. We watch Fearless, a Jet Li movie, which everyone seemed to enjoy. I think I'll save the decorations and make it an annual tradition.

The little neon stickies have everyone's name by which Chinese animal belongs to their birth year.
Work isn't all that bad these days.

I would post the picture of me squishing my face, but I'm way less cute in that pic than Isabella is here.

a quiet sunday evening
I have felt so many different emotions in the last month and a half.
Despair
Lost
Grief
Hopeful
Comfort
Lonely
Love
Relieved
Frustrated
Depressed
Hurt
Fearful
Encouraged
Determined
Strong
Weak
Today, I finally feel peace.

Snowmaggedon
Wednesday morning i woke up to the kind of snow I can appreciate:

Just enough to transform everything into a winterwonder land with out sticking to the roads, and melting by mid afternoon.
So, people out here on the east coast are annoyingly afraid of snow. They cancel school when it's forecasted to start snowing in the evening. They cancel church for fear the parking lots won't be clear on the sunny day after a few inches of snow.
So when there's a forecast for a blizzard that's bringing two feet of snow, you can imagine the mayhem that ensues. Soon the grocery store is out of milk, beef, and toilet paper. Everything closes down and everyone prepares for several days stuck inside their houses...
and then in the course of 24 hours this happens:

and then after it's stops snowing people like me have to figure out how to deal with the after effects. What I would have paid for a snowblower this afternoon.

Getting my car from where it was in this picture (notice the Virginia licencse plate) to inside the garage took at least an hour, plus a lot of frustration from my neighbors who had to help me get unstuck a dozen times, due in part to the fact, that my car didn't really fit in this direction... we had to turn it around and go in backwards.
